The Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service Board was established from 1 July 2006 with powers granted under The Fire and Rescue Services (Northern Ireland) Order 2006 and replaced the Fire Authority for Northern Ireland. The Board is responsible for steering the future management and operational direction of Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service.
It is the responsibility of the NIFRS Board to give strategic leadership to the implementation of the significant changes which will flow from The Fire and Rescue Services (Northern Ireland) Order 2006 and to ensure that Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service is resourced to meet its challenges. The Board is also responsible for providing fire and rescue services across the province and is funded by the Department of Health.
